PM to seek students’ views on ‘developed India’

Ahead of the scheduled unveiling of the ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ vision document by end-January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch an outreach campaign on Monday to seek the views of students to include their ideas in the action plan to make India a developed nation in the next 25 years.

Modi will launch the ‘Viksit Bharat @2047: Voice of Youth’ link in the MyGov portal on Monday via video conferencing to elicit the views of students.

VCs and heads of institutions will take the campaign to their universities and colleges to encourage students to participate by giving their ideas through the MyGov portal. The best ideas will be rewarded, Subrahmanyam said.

The students would give their suggestions on the following three questions: “How should a Viksit Bharat look like in 2047 in different aspects? What do we need to do to reach this goal? What can you do to make Viksit Bharat@2047 possible?”

The vision encompasses various aspects of development, including economic growth, social progress, environmental sustainability, and good governance, among others.

Currently, India is the fifth-largest economy and is poised to become the third-largest economy by overtaking Japan and Germany, as its GDP will cross $5 trillion by 2027, according to the International Monetary Fund estimate.

India will aim for a $30 trillion economy by 2047 to become a developed nation in the 100th year of independence, propelled by radical policy changes and reforms in governance by 2030, Subrahmanyam said recently.

The ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ document is in the final lap of completion after Modi envisaged it in December 2021. Ten sectoral groups of secretaries (SGoSs), which were tasked to prepare sectoral visions are almost finalised and Niti Aayog will merge these into a consolidated vision document by December after consultation with SGoSs and thought leaders including industry captains. Modi will unveil the vision document in December-January.

The ten SGoS were: rural & agriculture, infrastructure, resources, social vision, welfare, finance & economy, commerce & industry, technology, governance, and security & foreign affairs.

The Finance Ministry prepared a template of where the economy will be over the next 25 years.
