Ahead of 2024 polls, BSP supremo Mayawati names 28-year-old nephew Akash Anand as political successor

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Sunday declared her nephew Akash Anand as her political heir.

Udayveer Singh, the BSP’s Shahjahanpur district unit chief on Sunday told reporters that Akash Anand has been declared to be her heir.

The party’s official statement, however, did not mention any such decision.

Singh said Mayawati announced the decision during a meeting in the district that was attended by party leaders from across the country.

Akash, the 28-year-old son of Mayawati’s younger brother Anand Kumar, oversaw the party’s poll preparation in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh. He entered politics in the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He has been seen at multiple events of BSP alongside Mayawati.

Akash is the national coordinator of the party.

Interestingly, Mayawati, who has often taken a dig at dynastic politics, had appointed her brother Anand Kumar national vice president of the party in 2019 and nephew Akash was made a national coordinator.
