MP: Man arrested over death threat to Bageshwar Dham chief Dhirendra Shastri
A man has been arrested by the Chattarpur police for allegedly sending death threats via email to Bageshwar Dham Chief Dhirendra Shastri, authorities said on Sunday.
The individual, purportedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and demanding a ransom of Rs 10 lakh, was apprehended in Patna, Bihar. Police said that the suspect hails from the Shankardih area in Bihar’s Nalanda district.

Jaswant Kakoria, Inspector of Bamitha Police, stated regarding the threat to Bageshwar Dham Chief Dhirendra Shastri, “The person who threatened Bageshwar Dham Chief Dhirendra Shastri has been arrested from Bihar’s Patna. He has been produced in the court. He demanded Rs 10 lakhs via email and threatened to kill if the demand was not fulfilled.”

Bamitha police station registered a case on October 20, 2023, under Sections 387 and 507 of the IPC against the unidentified perpetrator.

In response to this, Bageshwar Dham Chief Dhirendra Shastri said, “Maybe people are bothered by the work going on for the Sanatana, but I will keep working.”

Another threatening email, received on October 22, 2023, came from the same individual. With assistance from Interpol, the police tracked the IP address, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
An investigation team led by Chhatarpur Superintendent of Police Amit Sanghi, along with Additional Superintendent of Police Vikram Singh, SDOP Khajuraho Salil Sharma, Police Station-in-charge Bamitha Inspector Jaywant Kakodiya, Sub-Inspector Sanjay Pandey, and Cyber Cell-in-charge Chhatarpur Sub-Inspector Sidwarth Sharma, was formed to investigate the matter.
Currently, the accused is under judicial custody, confirmed by the police.
