Men’s FIH Hockey Junior World Cup 2023: India defeats Netherlands in a thriller; progresses to semi-finals

India has emerged victorious against the Netherlands in the highly competitive quarter-final game played today at the Men’s Junior Hockey World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The team has progressed to the semi-final stage, where they will most probably face off Germany, who has claimed victory against Argentina by 2-1 in their quarter-final.

However, it was the Indian attackers who did not let the game go away easily, as they scored consecutive goals in the 34th and 35th minute. Lalage Aditya Arjun scored a field goal, and later Hundal Araijeet Singh converted a penalty corner for India to level the scores. However, Hortensius Olivier scored another penalty corner goal for the Netherlands in the 44th minute to get the Dutch side in the lead.

It was the heroics of Kushwaha Sourabh Anand who scored a field goal in the 52nd minute to even the game, and Uttam Singh who converted a penalty corner at an extremely crucial stage for India in the 57th minute to seal the semi-final spot for India.

India’s Semifinal

India will probably now face Germany, who defeated Egypt by 10-0 in the pool game, South Africa by 5-3 and lost to France by 2-0 in the pool games. In the other quarter-final games, France will play Australia, while Spain will play Pakistan.

Final

The semi-final is scheduled for Thursday, December 14 at 3:30 p.m., while the final will be played on Saturday, December 16.
